Engineering Basis

Under static conditions, reservoir pressure is balanced by surface tubing pressure plus the hydrostatic pressure of the gas and liquid columns.

Pr = SITHP + Gas Column Pressure + Fluid Column Pressure

If SITHP is measured, the calculator determines the static fluid level. If the static fluid level is independently measured, the calculator estimates the corresponding SITHP.

For field application, a stabilized shut-in tubing-head pressure measurement is preferred to an assumed SITHP. Where available, a downhole pressure measurement provides an independent check on the pressure profile.
